Curve NY S/S 22: Intimates by WGSN

Overview
Curve NY opened between August 1-2 at Spring Studios, chosen for safety reasons and its outdoor space. Over 75 international brands presented S/S 22 collections to more than 500 buyers.

It was a lively event with a discernible sense of positivity among buyers and brands who were once again able to show and see products on models, network and exchange information.

In terms of collections, a push for colour brightened up the space and mirrored the upbeat and playful # joyfulexpression trend.

There was also a move towards buying into sets, reflecting the rise of customers wanting matching bras and knickers, tying in with the # matchingsets trend existing across most categories and signifying more curated or glamorous looks in intimates. These complete looks are being enhanced with print, colour and embroidery.

Independent stores are doing extremely well, not least because of department store closures over the pandemic, further establishing a more personal relationship between brands, sellers and customers.

“Our Curve New York show was an incredible success. We have learned the importance, especially in the intimates business, how
much our industry is about relationships and nurturing connections”
Raphael Camp, CEO, Eurovet Americas

Bold colour

The trend for bright colour was evident across the show, with brands tapping into a sense of optimism following social distancing and aligning with the #joyfulexpression trend.

There is a buzz around Elomi and the fuller figure line at Wacoal due to a striking use of colour, combined with inspiration from historical costumes, tapping into

the #nuhistorics trend as well

as #cottagecore and #gardenflorals

Chantelleʼs successful one-size Soft Stretch range arrives in a spectrum of brights, exemplifying the trend for innovative and inclusive basics in impactful colour

Look to the S/S 23 Universal Design trend with its loud colour-blocking, Kidult theme and bright aesthetic or the 90s

Hedonist story for its hi-vis glamour

Garden florals

Pick up on the season’s high-energy sentiment with florals playful in colour, scale and effect.

Whether sweet and country inspired or bright and bold, floral prints and motifs are upbeat, fresh and influenced by nature

Hosiery brand Falke goes botanical with a pressed flower-inspired print, while Chantelle’s everyday stretch briefs get the #cottagecore treatment with a Liberty ditsy print. Sleepwear brand Aspen Dream refreshes pjyamas with a zesty #gardenfloral and Conturelle’s delicate meadow floral is combined with lace and a decorative picot trim for a #prairiegirl look

Wire-free bras

Sports bras and T-shirt bras blend aesthetics and functionality in flexibly structured, wire-free designs for all-day comfort.

Stretchy bra tops are shaped with padding at Chantelle for work wearability. At Commando, neoprene structures a Y-front fashion bralette

At Anita, a wireless bra supports a fuller bust, with three-sectioned cups set into an ergonomic underhand, firmer knit panels at the side and a double-lined stretch fabric at the back, with padded straps for comfort

The Smoothease non-wire bralette by Fantasie, designed with bonded seams and a moulded cup, arrives in black

At Wacoal, the wire-free Accord bra is added to its mainline, designed to feel like a second skin with a double sling on the front and side for maximum comfort and great fit

Embroidered sets

The rise of matching sets in lingerie shows a return to glamorous embroidered looks.

Buyers share news of customers buying into matching bra and knicker sets, aligning with the trend for #matchingsets across apparel

Skilled and #richembroidery enhance the curated look, along with fashion colours

Spring blue or #daylightblue stand out as the colours of choice for S/S 22

Take inspiration from the S/S 23 Intimate Indulgence theme, which blends classic romance with sheer and stretch fabrics for all-day comfort. At the glamorous end of the scale, look to the 90s Hedonist direction

for hi-vis colour

Molded and supportive

Full coverage and supportive styles that offer a clean line under clothes aim for a more natural body shape in breathable flexible fabrics.

Leonisa debuted its S/S 22 range of supportive intimates styles at the show, including standout supportive briefs with semi-sheer mesh SmartLace inserts to lighten the look of bottom-lifting styles. Targeted compression smooths areas of the body that need shaping and relieves compression in others to enhance curves

Moulded, full-coverage  bras  at Chantelle and Fantasie use breathable and flexible spacer foam fabrics to create a more natural shape and are designed to coordinate with smoothing brief lines

At Conturelle, the flawless, curve-hugging silhouettes are designed consciously in recycled polyamide lace with soft microfibre

Natural comfort

The use of plant-based, sustainable materials gives cozy sleepwear and underwear ranges an advantage.

Snug pyjamas at Aspen Dream are made in organically grown bamboo and decorated with outdoorsy prints

Commando has launched a naturally soft and airy range of underwear for S/S 22, made in a blend of bamboo and Tencel

Biota from Colombia is  using upcycled cotton blended with post-consumer plastic bottles, while Mey’s ribbed single jersey underwear is made in GOTS-certified organic cotton

Designed for women affected by breast cancer as a post-mastectomy bra, AnaOno is making wireless bras in super soft and eco- friendly modal

Bridal romance

Designed with the #weddingseason in mind, pretty and romantic lingerie is given fancier detailing.

A renewal of classically romantic looks, in line with the #nuhistorics trend and the increasing desire to dress up and wear #matchingsets, brings special focus to bridal sets

Aubadeʼs voile babydoll dress with Cornely embroidered cups, edged with guipure trim, is reminiscent of buttons found on wedding dresses. It has launched its Fleur de Tattoo range in white for S/S 22

Romance meets sex appeal at Wolf & Whistle, with fluttering laces caged in strapping and high-leg bodysuits in intricate brocade-inspired lace

Get inspired by the sweet Fairytale Romance theme for S/S 23
